A little history:

The very first open mic session began on Wednesday, Nov. 16 of 2005, hosted by Bill E., co-founder of Waltz. 3 people attended the session, and 7 years later, the nights are packed with musicians, comedians, writers, and often goes into the wee hours of dawn. The process is simple, you sign-up, and you perform. Our new host Pedro (Waltz-Astoria) has an amazing way of making every one feel comfortable and special. This is not just your everyday open mic, we're working hard to make the night feel more like a real showcase. We believe that the art of performing are perfected by creating a situation where the artists have the full control over the stage and the audience just as they would doing a solo show. Often times, extraordinary talents are discovered at our open mics and are offered spots in our specialized showcases and featured presentations. Open mics are the first step for musicians to get their feet wet, and the open mics @ Waltz is the ONLY way towards self discovery and stardom.

Note:

Keyboard players - No need to lug your keyboard here because we have a beautiful Steinway grand waiting for you!
Singers - You will need to provide your own accompanist or play for yourself as we do not have accompanist service here.

Sarah AiliSarah Aili

Friday, 5/17/13, 9pm

Aili spent much of her youth on the West Coast and on the Big Island of Hawaii soaking in love and sunshine. Bouncing around from coast to coast, Sarah found her way to New York City, where she dove deep into theatre, both commercial and experimental. Within a year of swinging through the concrete jungle, Sarah found herself on the road again touring with various productions and writing what would become her latest album.

Aili’s voice is a blend of smoky, poppy, velvety, and plush tones, creating a soulful quality that parallels with the musings of Annie Lennox, Adele, and Sara Bareilles. Mixed with a natural sense of conversation and lyrical latitude, Aili has a magical way of painting pictures for the mind with playful and creative strokes, sending the listener on a whimsical journey through life’s precious moments.  www.sarahaili.com
